Earwigs without mercy, Rock'n'Roll licks to be presented with a medal, a voice from the abyss of a whisky bottle and continuity that is hard to find out there... the TRICKY LOBSTERS are one of the best German band when it comes to straight and catchy Rock'n'Roll.

Founded in 1996 and constantly around in the current line up since 2001, the Tricky Lobsters’ got a deal with Abandon Records almost exactly on their 10th anniversary. This deal was long overdue, in face to the musical wall the north Germans delivered on their 2006 record “untouched”. In 2007 the Lobsters came back with a new album. “Dead Mans Ball” approved again and this time louder than anytime before that Rock’n’Roll is floating through the veins of this band and gained them a lot of attention within the scene.

Their latest work "Black Songs", which was released in November 2009 and has been produced by Claus Grabke (Dog Eat Dog, Thumb etc.) takes it all a huge step further. During many sessions in the Claus Grabke Studios in Münster, Germany, the band discovered a new vision of their Rock'n'Roll sound. "Let there be dirt" - that could be an alternative title for "Black Songs". There is for sure a lot of courage on this record. Courage to destroy the perfect recording during the mix session to avoid boredom, courage to distort the bass in a blues song like "One Way Hero" as if Trent Reznor would be in the house and courage to let a third person interpret the own material.

It took some time to do this job. At least by the bands standards. If you take into account that the last two records had been released in a year, the two years for this one are quite a while. In the end it paid off. "Black Songs" is a record that will not only enthuse old fans, but also get a lot more Rock'n'Roll freaks out there interested in it.
